Taken from my poetic sequence, Bettbehandlung, bound to the woman suffering is a nod to the historical treatment of women with chronic / acute mental or physical illness. Whilst researching the long history of vulnerable sick women, I was reflecting on my experience of being related and therefore intimately connected to the sick female body. This is a phrase that recognizes that sick women feel inextricably tied and emotionally tethered to each other, but it also indicates a part of the self that is bound to confronting one's own suffering.
